Sean AnderssonThe built environment has always fascinated me, and ever since studying about world cities at A Level and learning about the rate of urbanisation today, I realised that I wanted to pursue a career in construction.

The Manchester Life apprenticeship scheme provides a great platform for gaining invaluable knowledge and experience across the entirety of the construction industry working with some of the top companies in their sectors.

I am employed by Mace but have just began my Manchester Life journey working with Hydrock Consultancy as my first of six placements. So far, with Hydrock I have had opportunities in a wide range of services involved, including; preliminary site investigations, whereby I have been tasked with carrying out desk top studies for future sites, to the fit out, integrating building services using Auto CAD.

As part of the scheme, I spend one day a week at college working towards an NVQ diploma in Construction Site Supervision, and a HNC in Construction and the built environment.

This scheme will give me a great overview of the way construction projects are carried out from start to completion, setting me up for a future in this expanding industry. This is a great way to learn as it combines both theoretical and practical skills.
