michael o'connor atkinI am employed by Turner and Townsend and my aim is to gain as much knowledge and practical experience as possible over the next two years to prepare me for a career in Quantity Surveying.

I’m currently on my first placement at John Sisk where I have worked across several different disciplines including quantifying re-bar schedules, detailed measurement for the quantity surveyors, and setting out and surveying with the site engineers.

During the short time I have worked at John Sisk I have had the opportunity to build strong working relationships and increase my network which has led to me gaining a number of responsibilities on-site for different members of the team, most recently I have been tasked to carry out the post pour surveys at Cotton Field Wharf.

My future placements include JM architects, Graham Construction, Mace, Hydrock, and finally my employer Turner and Townsend.

I feel extremely privileged to be part of the Manchester Life programme and have an enormous sense of pride being involved in developments which are changing the face of city I call home.
