The company I have been involved with in my latest placement is ARUP, an engineering consultancy.
Many of the world’s leading experts in engineering fields are employed or associated with ARUP which makes it one of the most exciting and valuable placements in this apprenticeship. The main areas of engineering I have focused on since joining at the beginning of September have been: Structural Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering and I’m soon to join the Mechanical and Electrical Engineering team.
While spending time with the structural engineers I learnt about how a building’s frame is designed to meet the requirements of a buildings functional use, and the various issues which come up when designing a buildings frame such as client requirements for open spaces within the buildings.
Furthermore, I have gained a good understanding for the general basics of Geotechnical Engineering which I have applied in work. For example, I was tasked with reporting on the quality of a ground investigation report on a project in Dubai.Back to apprentices
