Jack Layfield

February 24, 2017

Jack LayfieldDuring the first year of my apprenticeship, I gained a wealth of knowledge and experience in the design, planning, and construction stages of construction projects by working with a range of disciplines within the industry.

In the second year of my apprenticeship I will spend four months working for the consultancy division of Mace, who have been employed as the project management team on the Manchester Life development.

Because of the guidance of my peers and placement mentors, I have gained a helpful understanding of the basic principles of project management. I also feel that my communication skills have improved immensely during my time with Mace as I have had the opportunity to regularly communicate in person, over the phone, and electronically with several people from a variety of organisations. Ultimately, this has led to a boost in my confidence and allowed me to feel comfortable when meeting and communicating with all individuals.

Personally, I have relished the opportunity to be involved in the six Manchester Life Phase One projects as this experience has allowed me to understand the processes involved with successfully managing a construction project at the many different stages of a development.
